Enhancing Dance Performance with Pilates: A Comprehensive 3-Day Certification

From Basics to Advanced
This 3-day Certificate Course will give you the skills to apply Pilates as a body conditioning method for the dancer in all levels (professional, pre-professional, amateur). You will learn about the training routine of dancers, discuss common compensations and muscle imbalances that occur due to dance training, and understand the different ways Pilates can complement the dancer’s performance. A specialized teaching methodology for dancers will be taught to help you with individualized planning, and key teaching considerations for dancers will be addressed to ensure successful teaching.
We will look at movement analysis and special considerations for the major joints in the body and learn an extensive repertoire on the mat, the apparatus and using small props. Completing the course, you will have an in-depth understanding to individualize a dancer’s Pilates program and to address specific needs for performance enhancement. The material of this course can be applied for all dance genres as well as the artistic athlete. Participants will receive the course manual and a certificate of completion.
The course begins with an introduction to the dance population, covering common training routines and muscle imbalances. This is followed by a discussion on the use of Pilates as a conditioning method for dancers, along with an exploration of training methodologies and key teaching considerations. The day continues with movement analysis, focusing on the spine and shoulder in dance, including special considerations and exercise repertoire. The session concludes with a Q&A.
Day 2 (Duration: 6 hours)
The second day is dedicated to movement analysis, beginning with the elbow, wrist, and hand in dance, addressing their unique demands and appropriate exercises. The focus then shifts to the hip, examining its role in movement, injury prevention, and performance enhancement. The day includes practice time, allowing participants to apply concepts learned, followed by a Q&A session.
Day 3 (Duration: 6 hours)
The final day covers movement analysis of the knee, ankle, and foot in dance, highlighting their importance in stability, mobility, and injury prevention. Participants will engage in additional practice time to reinforce their understanding of the material. The course concludes with an assignment and a final Q&A session.
